Payout by player, finishing position [Updated]

Breaking down the US Open payout for 2022 at The Country Club with record prize money for the winner and for the purse overall this year.

Anyone who wants the US Open to be a brutal and difficult test of golf was treated to what The Country Club at Brookline had to offer this week. While an old, classic course that didn’t necessarily test the length off of the tee for players, the conditions and a strategic design that could be quite penal if off-line at any point made for a great test.

And the cream definitely rose to the top over the week with the leaderboard featuring the likes of Will Zalatoris, Matt Fitzpatrick, Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy, among others, coming into Sunday’s final round.

Not only were these players looking for the prestige of being a major winner at this tournament though, they were also looking for their portion of a massive US Open payout with a new record-setting purse at $17.5 million for 2022. But how does that get broken down? We’ve got the answers.

How much did Matt Fitzpatrick win? US Open prize money, winner’s payout

Announced earlier in the week, Matt Fitzpatrick as the winner will receive a record-high amount for the US Open prize money this week at Brookline. For emerging victorious at The Country Club, he will walk away with an incredible $3.15 million. That’s nearly $1 million more than what Jon Rahm received for winning at Torrey Pines just one year ago.

This is a huge amount of money being thrown around for the 2022 US Open purse but it’s worth it for this championship. One of the most grueling tests in golf, particularly at a place like The Country Club and with the conditions at play, this is a monster of a tournament and the winner of it should be compensated as such for enduring the test.
