Age: 17
Grade: 11
Sport: Baseball
Athlete of the week achievement: Metzger collected a two-run single and scored for Central in a 13-2, five inning PIAA Class 3A state championship winning victory over Lancaster Catholic. Metzger also played a key role in the Dragons’ six-run second inning when he swung and made contact on a pitch out of the strike zone as Parker Gregg was on the move on a hit-and-run. Even though Metzger was thrown out, allowing Gregg to move to second put the first of the six runs in position with Central’s big hitters due to the plate.
Season update: Metzger batted .326 with 17 RBIs, was a perfect 10-for-10 on stolen bases and fielded his second base position with a .917 fielding percentage with only three errors.
Coach A.J. Hoenstine’s quote: “Dalton has played a solid second base for us all season, and scraps every at-bat in our nine hole. He takes pitches, bunts, draws walks and does whatever is necessary to get on base. He was a key to our win Friday.”
