Finding a job can be difficult, and as students are finishing school and coming home from college, there may be fewer opportunities around Whatcom County.
But as tourist season approaches and Bellingham looks forward to a busy summer, local restaurants, entertainment spots and businesses are looking for help.

Boundary Bay Brewery – multiple positions available
Boundary Bay Brewery is a restaurant and is currently hiring dishwashers, servers, bartenders and hosts.
The bartender position is a seasonal part-time position that includes responsibilities such as serving beers, ciders, wine and cocktails to guests, talking to customers and cleaning. Pickford Film Center – Business manager
The Business manager is responsible for bookkeeping, accounting, human resource responsibilities and preparing financial reports. The position requires over five years of experience in non-profit accounting, training in legal requirements for human resources and experience with Word, Windows Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks and other software, The part-time position will require 25 hours of work a week and pay between $23 – $25 an hour. Northwest Washington Fair – multiple positions available
The Northwest Washington Fair is back this year and is looking for help to throw the 10-day event. Every year the fair hires over 300 workers in a variety of positions including restroom cleaners, ticket sellers, event staff, and garbage crew workers.
The fair takes place August 11 – 20 and includes live entertainment, animal barns and a carnival.
Applicants must be 14 years or older and available to work August 11 – 21 and can apply by picking up an application at the fair office, located at 1775 Front St.
Nelson Driving School LLC – Driving instructor
Bellingham, Nooksack, Mount Baker, Blaine and Meridian High Schools
Nelson Driving School is currently looking for an experienced and licensed driving instructor, but will also train the right person who applies. The part-time job requires you to be 21 years or older, have a valid license for 5 or more years, a high school diploma, the availability to work weekdays and some weekends, a clean driving and criminal record, and the ability to pay for a background check, fingerprinting and any DOL licensing fees. The pay will range from $15 – $22 an hour depending on experience and requires 100 hours of training.

One Stop Mail Shop – Customer service associate
The One Stop Mail Shop is a family-owned shipping business that is looking for a customer service associate. The job requires availability on Mondays and Fridays and will include duties such as running a cash register, using shipping software and assisting customers. The job pays $14.49 an hour and those who are interested can apply online through Facebook or stop by the store in Ferndale at 1730 Labounty Drive, Suite 9.
Sustainable Connections – multiple positions available
Sustainable Connections is a local nonprofit that seeks to help businesses and communities through creating ideas, events and projects to benefit the Pacific Northwest, and is currently hiring for three positions.
The Housing and Smart Growth Program Manager is a full-time position in charge of leading the operations of the Whatcom Housing Alliance and addressing local housing issues. The job requires at least three years of experience in public policy, housing development or affordable housing, as well as other leadership experience. The salary ranges from $55,000 – $62,000 a year depending on experience and qualifications.
The Lead Nursery Manager is a full-time position that involves leading the coordination and planning of growing over 1,200 fruit trees and other edible and ornamental plants in the greenhouse. The position requires a degree in horticulture or a related field or at least four years of experience in plant production and maintenance, experience leading teams and staff members and the ability to work outdoors in all weather. The salary ranges from $18 – $20 a year depending on experience and qualifications.
The Grants Manager is a full-time position that involves identifying, writing and reporting on grants and contracts for various programs and projects. The position requires two to three years of experience working with grants, contracts and funding opportunities, communication skills, the ability to work with others but also independently and the ability to complete tasks well in a time-sensitive environment. The salary ranges from $50,000 to $65,000 a year depending on qualifications and experience.

Wood’s Coffee – multiple positions available

Wood’s Coffee is a popular Pacific Northwest coffee company located throughout Washington state and is hiring in multiple locations and multiple positions.
The Ferndale Wood’s office is hiring bakery workers to make the pastries and food customers can enjoy at each Wood’s location. Full-time and part-time positions are available, and for more information, those who are interested can fill out an application online.

Baristas are responsible for making beverages, serving food, assisting customers and taking care of the store.
