This Saturday, players arrived at Sportime Syosset to take part in an open tryout for the opportunity to earn scholarships to John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) Long Island.
The tryouts were open to players ages 6-17, and provided a chance to earn both full and partial scholarships to the program.
“This year’s tryout was far and away our largest event,” said Mike Kossoff, Director at JMTA Long Island. “We had over 200 kids attend this year’s tryout and I was thrilled with the effort and attitude of the participants.”
The annual tryouts and subsequent scholarships given out help give many families access to JMTA programs, and continues the mission of the Academy.
“Just like in years past, we do our best to help underprivileged families have access to the greatest tennis academy in the world. This past year JMTA sold out every single timeslot, with over 100 players on the wait list. I am anticipating next year to be bigger and better than ever.”
The scholarships given out are for the 2022-2023 indoor season at JMTA Long Island at Sportime Syosset.
