China Bans Celebrities From Flaunting Their Wealth On Social Media

The newest crackdown on the entertainment business in China has prohibited celebrities from flaunting their wealth on social media.

On Tuesday, China’s Cyberspace Administration announced that celebrities will not be permitted to use social media to “show off affluence” or “extravagant pleasure.”

The regulations also prohibit celebrities from disclosing inaccurate or private information, inciting fans to fight among other, or propagating rumors.

According to Business Insider, both celebrities and their admirers would be forced to follow ‘public order and good customs.

To adhere to accurate public opinion orientation and value orientation, promote socialist core values.

Also to preserve a healthy style and taste’ on their social media accounts.

The new regulations come as China continues to tighten its grip on the entertainment industry, which includes a crackdown on celebrity culture.

Participants were advised to ‘actively renounce crude and kitsch inferior tastes.

In order to consciously resist the decaying notions of money worship, hedonism, and extreme individualism,’ according to official media.

A list of misbehaving celebrities’ allegedly blacklisted by Beijing was circulated on social media in August.

Zhao, 45, and Zheng, 30, were among those named, as was Chinese-Canadian pop singer Kris Wu, who was arrested earlier this year on rape charges.
