Nigerian author, Reno Omokri has advised those with elderly parents that giving them financial support is good but rendering emotional support is better and more preferred.
In a recent tweet, he disclosed that most people who died at old age was as a result of lack of attention, which developed into loneliness, adding that they could have lived a little longer if they had someone or people, who regularly checked on them.
He therefore advised those with aging parents to spend time with them or call them regularly so as to ease their parents’ pain instead of assuming that sending money to them to take care of themselves is enough.
Here is what he wrote;
‘Don’t just give your parents money in their old age. Give them something more than money. Give them your attention. Call them often. More of their friends die as they age and they suffer from loneliness. Ease their pain. In fact, stop reading this and call them now’
