Umar Gwandu, the media aide to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has disclosed that Nigerians, who are still using Twitter even after it was banned in Nigeria will realise the particular law, they are going against, when they are caught and charged to court.
Recall, Malami, in a statement which was signed by Gwandu on Saturday, June, announced that anyone in Nigeria, who is apprehended violating the ban placed on Twitter in Nigeria will be made to face the law.
Media house, Premiumtimes, who got in touch with Umar, asked to know what laws will be used to prosecute a defaulting, he responded that people will know at the time of prosecution.
“We will invite journalists at the time of prosecution, and they will know which laws are used to prosecute. The point is Twitter has been banned. Anybody should not try to use Twitter.
At the time we are gathering them and assembling them in court, they will get to know which law they are violating”
When he was further pressured to disclosed to Nigerians the particular law they are violating by using Twitter after its ban, Gwandu revealed that it was violating the federal government laws
“Tell Nigerians that the government has banned Twitter and anybody who uses it will be penalised. The point is they violated the ban. They are violating the federal government laws”
