Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, Nigerian Inspector-General of Police force, on Sunday October 4, banned operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), as well as other operatives, Special Tactical Squad (STS) and Intelligent Response Team (IRT), from carrying out the routine patrols including stop and search duties.
This is coming, after alleged inhumane act and extra-judicial actions melted against the citizens of Nigeria by FSARS in different states of the country.
The directive was announced by the police spokesman, Inspector Mba, who in his statement said that, “The IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has banned operatives of the Federal Social Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) as well as other security operatives such as Special Tactical Squad (STS).
Intelligent Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad Etc, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties, stop and search duties, mounting of roadblocks and traffic checks etc, with
“Police IG has issued a serious warning to the Tactical Squads to desist from invading the privacy of citizens, mainly through unauthorized search of mobile phones, and other smart devices.
He further stated that, FSARS and other special squads should concentrate and respond basically on cases of kidnapping and armed robbery as well as other violent crimes in the country.
“IGP has ordered the X-squad and special Monitoring team to commence nation wide massive monitoring of activities of Tactical Squads including police officers on the road. To make sure they arrest, investigate and prosecute any officer who violates these directives, he added.
“Furthermore, he warned police commissioners, saying that henceforth, any act of misconduct by FSARS in any part of the country, the commissioner who is in charge of the state command, as well as their supervisory Zonal Assistant Inspector General would be held liable.
“Two operatives of FSARS and their civilian collaborator, operating in Lagos state, have been tracked and arrested and operational vehicle has also been impounded,” Mba said.
Police Confirms Death Of An Abuja Based Pastor, Who Died Inside His Church
The Nigerian Police Force, Abuja Command have confirmed the death of a popular Abuja based pastor, who was found dead inside his church.
The Pastor identified as Emeka Evans Unaegbu, was said to have been conducting a lone vigil before he probably slumped and was found lying on the floor and could barely breath when neighbors found him.
According to the Sun Newspapers, the neighbors had rushed him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. The Police while reacting to the news, stated that they are not suspecting any foul play though they claimed that investigation is currently ongoing.
