A Nigerian man on Twitter identified with the Twitter handle @aproko_doctor has stated the importance of putting away your phone when someone is having a conversation with you.
The online doctor, stated that it is a mark of respect to put away one’s phone when one is having a real conversation with another person, because it says a lot about you and the value you have for that person, you are having a conversation with.
Alternatively, he said, that if you can’t give your attention completely maybe because you are doing something important on your phone, you can politely tell the person, if both of you could please have the conversation some other time when you are free.
He concluded that though, it is a small thing but it is important and it goes a long way to show that you are ethical sound and sensitive.
Taking to his twitter account, he wrote;
Something as simple as putting your phone away when someone is trying to have a conversation with you is a sign that you respect them
Or “I can’t seem to give you 100% attention, there’s a pressing issue now, can we have this conversation some other time?”
It’s the small things
Here are some replies
@9jaketogirl replied Same applies when u are out with a group of people. Nothing erks me more than when people come out and you’re all sat there and they are staring at their phones. Stay home then.
@PuffPuffLover replied Even my younger brother demands this. He asks me to please put away my phone when he’s talking to me about something he’s passionate about I, and I find that it makes him happy to have my full attention.
@Musicbender1 replied Nigerian girls on a date pressing phone every now and then. So annoying.I took you out to see you and have a conversation with you, not just for you to come eat and press phone.
@Omokorebolanle replied When I first got married 9years ago,this almost cost me my marriage! When ever my husband is talking to me am always pressing phone, so he stop talking to me!!he later explain the reason why he stop talking to me, since then I have stop doing that, it very wrong
@zeals thoughts replied It’s actually just about the manners tho. Like not picking an unimportant call in the middle of a conversation. Removing your sunglasses when talking to someone Not folding your hands when talking to someone Keeping eye contact
@styleyaownstyle replied Exactly. people need to be courteous not every thing will be taught in school. Expose yourself to people and places watch how they do the positive and learn. Unlearn some nasty attitudes and relearn ..
