Nigerian Government Set To Ban Sachet Alcohol, Polythene Drinks.

The Nigerian government has moved to ban sachet and small plastic bottle alcoholic drinks in the country.

According to a statement made by the Director General of the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control NAFDAC, Professor,. Mojisola Adeyeye, on Saturday September 12, 2020 titled ‘NAFDAC cautions on alcohol abuse.’

In her statement she said, under the support of the Federal Ministry of Health, we wishes to bring the attention of the general public on the issue concerning the rate of sales and consumption of sachet and small glass bottles of alcoholic and beverage drinks in Nigeria.

“These concerns relate to negative effects of abnormal and excess alcoholic consumption on the general public health and also the safety of the the people.

“Uncontrolled access and availability of high demand and concentration of mini sachet and small glass bottle alcoholic drinks have been put forward as the major factor contributing to alcoholic abuse in the country with it’s negative impact on the general public.

“The World Health Organisation reports that alcohol consumption contributes to three million death every year globally.

She further added that, with the full support from the Federal Ministry of Health, NAFDAC has continued to carry out its regulatory responsibility by making sure that all sachet and small glass bottle beverage drinks including other regulated products approved the NAFDAC meets set standard of quality, safety and wholesomeness.

“The agency to reduce availability of the sachet and small glass bottle alcoholic drinks henceforth January 31 2020, the agreement with the major stakeholders has been reached and production of glass bottles and mini sachet alcoholic drinks to reduce by 50 percent of capacity starting from January 2020.

The goal is to phase out the high demand and concentration on the sachet and small bottle beverages.

The Nigerian Police Force, Anambra State Command has announced the arrest of a man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death.

According to the Police Spokesman, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, who made this known to the public stated that the man identified as Kingsley Igwe and only 35 years old had ran amok for some complicated reasons and brutally stabbed his wife.

The neighbors had rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was confirmed ‘Brought in Dead’ by the Doctor on duty. Kingsley’s wife died at the age of 31. The Police also informed the general public that investigations into the case was still ongoing.
