“If A Degree Could Make You Rich, Those Who Gave It To You Would Have Been Billionaires” — Reno Omokri

Nigerian renowned author and lawyer, Reno Omokri has caused stir on social media after he dropped some thought-provoking statements on educational degrees and certificates.

The former media aide to a former Nigerian president, in one of his recent posts on Instagram, revealed that the premium being placed on certificates and degrees is exaggerated and totally not justified.

Reno, in his opinion, explained that certificates and degrees are just pieces of paper that don’t really replicate successes in the real world and can’t make one wealthy—they are used to apply for jobs, he said.

He made a clarion call categorically to those who place high value on degrees to have a serious rethink because if really degrees guaranteed wealth those who gave it to them— the lecturer, HOD, dean, and Vice Chancellor, would have been billionaires.

“Your degree does not guarantee you a job. At best, your degree teaches you to work for money”, he reiterated.

Taking to his Instagram page, he wrote;

“Stop thinking that your certificate entitles you to a job, or wealth, or even to success. Your degree is just a piece of paper. It entitles you to NOTHING! If a degree could make you rich, those who gave it to you would have been billionaires! Yet, your lecturer, HOD, dean, and Vice Chancellor, were all average working class. Your degree only qualifies you for a job. But even Christ said, many are called but few are chosen. Your degree does not guarantee you a job. At best, your degree teaches you to work for money. It is what you learn outside school that will teach you how to make money work for you!”
